Fire Chief Joe Vitti passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at the age of sixty-nine. He was Chief of the Stamford Fire Department for seventeen years. Chief Vitti was thirty-eight years old when he was appointed Chief of the Department, making him the youngest member to obtain the rank of Fire Chief.
