In September 1999, Captain Bill Avalos and Lieutenant Phil Hayes approached Chief Anthony Milone with a plan to have a huge week long celebration of Fire Prevention Week targeting not just the traditional 3rd graders, but all children in Elementary and Preschools in Stamford. He was 100% sold on the concept. It concluded with a massive Open House unlike anything seen previously in Stamford. These are the pictures from that open house.
The truly amazing thing is that we had something like twenty firefighters who took ownership of an assignment to make this day happen.
