Stamford Firefighters rescued four persons from an early morning fire on June 3, 1963 utilizing an aerial ladder. The fire started on the second floor, but was quickly spreading up the outside of the dwelling when firefighters made their heroic rescues. Lt George Barnett and Firefighter James McAuliffe are credited for the rescue in the Local Stamford Advocate Newspaper. Lt Barnett received a commendation letter (see below) and two days off for his heroic act. It is not known whether James McAuliffe received the same
